So I just got back from the Bristol Comic Convention and I have to say thanks to anyone who came along to see me and support Marineman!

It was a wild show and I didn't stop sketching from show open to show close!

I'm pleasantly exhausted and back to finishing issue 6 so you can read the next part of Marineman's adventures...

I have six pages left to draw of 42 pages and the coloring, then I'm on to designing and producing the trade. It's a lot of hard work but all the comments you've been posting about how much Marineman means to you have made it all worthwhile and put a huge smile on my face - so thank you all!

Gotta get back to it... but i'll post again as soon as I'm able!

  1. It was great to meet you, Ian. Would have loved a sketch but you sure were busy! Am more than happy with my poster you signed on Sunday! it's going in the Bathroom of my house I'm building when it's finished, but like you said its a lot of hard work but completely worth it! Keep up the great work on Marineman, will keep recommending to everybody I can!

    Thanks, Tom P. Poole.

  2. Hey Tom,

    Good to meet you too!

I'm sorry I you weren't able to get a sketch but like you say - it was chaos! In a good way...

Sometime in the future I'm sure we'll meet again and things will work out sketch wise!

Thanks for the help spreading the word and I hope you enjoy issue 6, once it's complete and out there....And good luck with the house building!

    All the best,

    -Ian

  3. Ian,
So I haven't made a trip to the comic store in a long time. This was a HUGE mistake. I picked up Marineman #5 which immediately broke my "read least favorite first and save most favorite for last" rule. I had to read it the moment I got home(tried on the drive, but that didn't work). I have to say I love this issue, especially the underwater army on page 16. I for one hope Steve is just a "sea-breathing man" vs. Nazi experiment, though I doubt it, as he doesn't have huge fins! Though I have a feeling issue #6 may show some kind of "sea-breathing man" I was also wondering about Ilona, young woman working with creepy old guy? Well thanks again for the wonderful book. I must say another great job and I can't wait for issue #6.
PS Although I love the extra story pages, no extras, i.e. Oceanauts, was kind of sad.

  4. Hope you can make it to Heroes Con in Charlotte in the future. It is family friendly and well attended. By reputation, you would fit in well there. There is a lot of good energy and a diverse crowd.

  5. i second the heroescon request ian!! I've followed your career since Cable, even when it was tough finding issues of the Coven in stores and saw your new style in hulk and love to see you having so much fun with marineman!! i can't wait for issue 6 and please put some "extra-extras" (thanks for the extras in the monthly book!) in the trade so i have an excuse to pick that up!

  6. Hi Vic,

Ilona has a lot of back story that we'll get to eventually but you're right, it does look like a creepy set-up! Issue 6 may shed some light - but pose more questions...!

I was sad too that there were no Oceanauts in issue 5, but I needed the space for the story! It's why there was a double helping the previous issue.

There's not enough space for Oceanauts in issue 6 either, although I have two more features ready to go, one regular and one extended, so they will both take up residence in the trade.

    Thanks for hanging in there!

    All the best,

    -Ian

  7. Hi Wayne,

I would love to come to Charlotte - If for no other reason than the Marineman connection!

Seriously though, I would like to attend but I have never been invited and living in the UK it's an expensive trip, these days more than ever.

I'll see what I can sort out for next year, it would be great to go, I've heard nothing but good things about the show!

    Thanks for the heads up...

    All the best,

    -Ian
