I know what you're thinking, that Ian churchill is like a bus - no posts for ages and then suddenly two at once!

Well the reason is that my wife went out earlier and returned with the latest issue of DIVER magazine that just so happens to have a cracking review of Marineman issue 1!

In reference to my earlier post, as a result I had to go about amending the Marineman website to compensate for interested parties who aren't specifically into comics, and who may be passing through having read the review! I certainly hope that as many divers as possible prove curious and seek Marineman out, not just for my own sake but for the sake of the industry. We need as many new readers as we can find!

So if you are a reader of DIVER magazine, and are thinking of trying Marineman out, then welcome aboard and I hope you enjoy the experience and come back for more...

DIVER is a great magazine and certainly worth checking out if you are partial to scuba diving.

Marineman was reviewed in the book review section and here it is if you're interested in taking a look...

DIVER's online magazine can be found at the end of this link...http://divernet.com/

  1. Hi Ian,
My name is Thomas from France, owner of Merluche Comics. I would be interested into publishing Marineman in an upcoming magazine (then in TPB). Can we talk about it ?

  2. Ian,

You really need some sort of contact info on your letter's page. After three issues, I thought I'd weigh in on Marineman.

I'm not big on message boards or newsletters, so the only reason I even snagged the first ish was because the title and colors of the cover struck a chord. Every summer I go on hiatus from my graphic design job in New York to return home and lifeguard all summer, because having someone thank me for yanking their kid out of a riptide is more rewarding than my boss saying, "Thanks for that PDF." I live for surf dashes, morning swims beyond the breakers, staring at bronze girls and the occasionally save/assist. So this book seemed worth a shot. The name "Ian Churchill" plastered across the cover helped, too.

I was initially sold on your work on Cable in '95. Obviously, the new look is a total 180, and I like it... for the most part. My only gripe is the terrible cheekbone shadows. It's ALWAYS a distraction, and looks like a slug on the characters' faces.

The story was a little slow, almost nonexistent after #1, and it took too long to get into the origin of #3 (5 pages), but the pacing for the rest of #3 was pretty great, and its nice to see some plot threads really take shape.

I LOVE the ancillary features, and would love to see them span more aquatic topics. I always say that if people were educated to respect the ocean properly, there'd be far fewer instances of drowning. A back-up on swimming safety would be good, particularly for your younger readers.

Also, I'm not sure if the mention of Atlantis in #3 is going to be a major thread or just simply name-dropping, but that's one of my favorite topics. Check out Gateway to Atlantis by Andrew Collins. Phenomenal read. Informative AND interesting.

Anyway, that's all. Did I mention you need contact info on your letters page?

    Keep up the good work.
